Media General to buy LIN Media

Media General announce last friday that it would acquire LIN Media for $1.6 billion. As a result, it will create the second-largest local television broadcasting company.                                                                              Both companies operate local television stations acting as affiliate of big networks as ABC, CBS and NBC.

These two companies combined, would have 74 stations in more than 45 countries, having about 23% of market share in US.

This merger agreement will provide the scale, breath and resources to compete more effectively in the changing and envolving media business.

Vincent L. Sadusky, the executive chief of LIN Media said "Together, we will be able to better serve our local communities throught our significant and diverse geographic footprint and further grow our national digital business"

Despite the business benefits related to merger, what it come to my mind is the strategic and influence power that this company could have when having 1 in 4 spectators in United States TV market and being presence in more than 45 countries.
